Selection Process
Applicants must successfully complete a written examination. The examination is designed, prepared, and scored by an independent, professional research company.
Applicants must successfully complete a physical fitness test which encompasses the following events:
300 Meter Run
This is a measure of applicant's anaerobic power capacity. Applicant's will run a distance of 300 meters at a maximal level of effort. Time used to complete the distance will be recorded in seconds.
Sit and Reach
This test measures the flexibility of the posterior thigh and back muscles. The best of three trials is considered an applicant's score.
Sit-ups
This test is used to measure the muscular endurance of the abdominal and hip flexor muscles. An applicant's score consists of the total number of correct sit-ups done in one minute.
Bench Press
This test measures the muscular strength in one maximum contraction. The amount pressed, divided by your body weight, will yield a ratio which will be the applicant's score.
1.5 Mile Run
This test is used to measure the efficiency of the cardiovascular system and how it responds to imposed physical demand. The applicant must run or jog a distance of 1.5 miles in the shortest time possible. All scores are individually recorded.
Applicants obtaining a passing grade on the written examination and passes the physical fitness assessment will appear before an Oral Review Board.
The cumulative score of the written examination and oral review board will determine an applicants placement on the employment list.
